On 28th December, 1916, the 11th Royal West Kent battalion of 122 Brigade, 41st Division moved into the front line at St Eloi just to the south of Ypres in Belgium. Unfortunately the part of the battalion diary dealing with this period is missing so it is not known how Alfred Smith was killed on 5th January, 1917. |
